If you have been charged with a DUI offence in the state of Tasmania (and depending on the severity of your charge), the penalties could include:
The higher the reading, the longer your disqualification can be. If your charge is combined with a dangerous driving or unlicenced driving offence, or it is a repeated offence, then you could be facing all or a combination of these penalties, at longer terms.
You may also be required to participate in the Mandatory Alcohol Interlock Program at the end of your disqualification period depending on your reading (a BAC of 0.15 or more), whether you have had two or more DUI offences in a five year period, or if you failed to provide a breath or blood sample. You can even be responsible for the cost of installation, maintenance and removal of the interlock device which can range from $3,000 to $3,500.
Talk to an experienced lawyer immediately to discuss your options and avoid a harsh penalty.
