Brooke Winter (LLB, BBus, Grad.Dip LP)

Principal

Brooke Winter is the Principal and Supervising Lawyer of the firm.  He has been working continuously and exclusively in the criminal arena for over 20 years in various capacities. Brooke was a prosecutor in both New South Wales and Queensland for a number of years prior to becoming a Defence Lawyer in 2006.

Brooke has worked extensively in both metropolitan and country New South Wales and then for the last 12 years on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane. He has had extensive experience in both the Magistrates Courts in Queensland and also the Local Courts in New South Wales. Brooke has represented many people in the District and Supreme Courts of both Queensland and New South Wales.

Brooke completed his schooling on the Gold Coast and then completed a degree in Business Management (BBus) from Griffith University on the Gold Coast. He then concentrated his studies in the area of law and completed his Law Degree (LLB) with the University of New England (Armidale). Brooke then went on to complete a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (GDLP) with the Australian National University in Canberra. Brooke is admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of Queensland, the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory, and the High Court of Australia.

Brooke has extensive experience in dealing with Police investigations, and also investigations by other statutory and regulatory bodies such as the Crime and Misconduct Commissoin and the Australian Crime Commission. Brooke has a passion for advocacy and has particular skills in trials, pleas and also complicated bail applications. Brooke has had extensive experience in both the adult and juvenile jurisdictions.

Nicole completed her Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Psychological Science at Griffith University in 2012, going on to complete her Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice with the Queensland University of Technology in 2013. She joined the team at Brooke Winter Solicitors as a law clerk at the commencement of 2012 and thereafter was admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of Queensland. She is currently completing her Master in Laws (General), completing classes in criminal law and family law to further her knowledge and expertise. Simultaneously, she is completing the requirements to become a qualified Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner which will enable her to conduct family law mediations in both parenting and property and issue dispute resolution certificates (60I certificates).

Our Family Law division is headed by Nicole as she continues to further her skills through on-going education. Her aim as a family law practitioner is to attempt to work collaboratively with all involved to achieve her client’s goals as swiftly and sensitively as possible.  She is experienced in participating in Family Dispute Resolution mediations, conciliation and court ordered conferences for both parenting and property matters. Nicole has over four years’ experience in court advocacy and has an aptitude in standing up for her client’s rights.

Nicole is dedicated to assisting the community, having been a qualified Justice of the Peace for over 5 years, and is constantly looking for opportunities to use her expertise to benefit others. In 2012, Nicole dedicated her spare time to a not-for-profit community advice centre in Brisbane providing free legal advice to those in need. She has previously volunteered at a number of law firms during her time at university, including spending time completing work experience at a law firm in Shanghai, China. She currently volunteers her time to the Logan Legal Advice Centre on Wednesday evenings to provide free legal advice to the community. In addition, Nicole offers her time through the Domestic Violence Duty Lawyer service at Southport Magistrates Court.

Through representation in various jurisdictions throughout Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia, Nicole has the ability to adapt easily in any situation. Through years of court advocacy, Nicole has the skill and proficiency required of a legal advocate to protect the rights of her client’s in criminal, domestic violence and family law. Additionally, her studies in psychology give her a valuable insight which benefits her clients both in negotiations and in the court environment. Her knowledge, experience and passion for fighting for the rights of others assist Nicole in obtaining the best outcome for her client’s.

Allanah completed her double degree of Bachelor of Laws with Honours and Bachelor of Business majoring in Business Management at Griffith University in 2013 before going on to complete her Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice with Bond University in 2014. She was later admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Queensland before joining the team at Brooke Winter Solicitors.
Before becoming a solicitor, Allanah completed her Honours Thesis on Marriage, De facto Relationships and the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth). She excelled at university having received academic excellence awards in 2011, 2012 and 2013. She completed work experience as a legal student at various family and criminal law firms on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane, including Brooke Winter Solicitors, and completed her practical legal training at a boutique law firm on the Gold Coast. During these periods, she dealt with a vast range of family and criminal law matters and gained invaluable experience in these areas. She has also worked on many Legal Aid cases as well as sensitive cases involving domestic violence.
Allanah is highly dedicated to assisting all her clients by providing tailored legal advice, assisting in family law negotiations and settlements, drafting court orders and affidavits, appearing in court and advising clients on police charges and investigations (such as Fair Trading, Workcover, Centrelink and other statutory bodies). She understands that each client matter is unique and deserving of the same personal, meticulous care and attention. Her aim is to resolve matters as harmoniously as possible for the benefit of her clients however she is committed to achieving the best result even if that means taking a matter to court and fighting for that result.
